More than teaching: The impact of a Pega training according to Arjan Wiegman

Arjan Wiegman - Academy trainer

At BPM Company Academy, knowledge sharing is at the core of what we do and our trainers play a key role in making it happen. In this interview, we talk with Arjan Wiegman, one of our experienced Pega trainers, about his motivation, experiences, and insights from providing Pega trainings. Arjan explains how interaction, practical application and continuous learning are central to his sessions, and why Pega trainings are valuable for professionals in their daily work and career growth.

What motivates you to provide Pega trainings?

My personal motivation for teaching stems from a family background filled with educators and a passion for sharing knowledge. I gain great satisfaction from seeing knowledge resonate effectively with participants during a training, as well as from addressing the practical challenges they face in their daily work.

What do you personally enjoy most about providing Pega trainings?

I value the interactive nature of the training sessions, as it enables mutual learning and helps me stay up to date with Pega technology. Providing training also serves as a means for my own professional development, since it allows me to regularly review and refresh the concepts within the Pega content.

What kind of feedback from participants during or after a training stands out to you?

The feedback I receive from participants is generally very positive, with high satisfaction scores and expressions of gratitude at the end of the training sessions. Although there are occasionally minor critical remarks, the overall impression is that participants enjoy the training. It can sometimes be difficult to fully assess the actual value of the training due to possible politeness, but I believe the positive feedback is genuine and reflects true appreciation and interest. I also notice that some participants take the initiative to reach out to me after successfully passing their exams, which highlights the lasting impact of the training.

When do you notice that a Pega training really “resonates” with participants?

Interaction during the training is essential, as answering questions helps confirm that the material is truly understood. A Pega training involves many practical challenges and encourages participants to place their knowledge in context, going beyond purely theoretical instruction. This ensures deeper understanding and greater applicability.

How does a Pega training support participants in their daily work or career development?

Contextualizing the training content within participants’ own projects and work environments is very important. I notice that participants often ask how best practices can be applied to their specific situations, which provides significant added value beyond e-learning alone. This practical application helps bridge the knowledge gap between business roles such as Business Architects and System Architects, especially in environments with remote teams. In addition, the training helps prevent early project mistakes by reinforcing fundamental concepts, including the focus on business outcomes. This contributes to better decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

What makes Pega a relevant technology to invest in today?

The core strengths of Pega in case management and workflow management are the key technological advantages that set it apart from other low-code platforms in the market. While there are competitors active in this space, Pega distinguishes itself in its niche through its deep focus on case management and integrated workflow solutions. Pega is also at the forefront of the latest developments, adding new features such as AI coaching tools.

AI and Constellation in Pega

Generative AI (GenAI) and Constellation have been prominent topics in recent years, raising many questions. I observe that Pega is steadily making progress with AI-related features and is showing clear signs of growth and development. Training participants often ask questions about the practical implementation of AI and Constellation features within their projects. I also notice that many clients are gradually adopting Constellation, progressing at different rates and exploring its implications and differences compared to previous approaches.

What would you say to someone who is unsure whether a Pega training is right for them?

A Pega training is a valuable way to maintain your professional development and stay up to date with Pega technology. BPM Company regularly organizes training sessions, for example every six months or quarterly, to cover new content and features. As a participant, you also benefit from the questions and experiences shared by others during these sessions. I would recommend starting with the Pega Business Architect training — it’s a great way to experience first-hand the power of Pega!
