Pega Infinity Studio: AI as part of the development experience

AI is changing the applications we build and the way we build them. This became clear at PegaWorld 2026 with the introduction of Pega Infinity Studio. Infinity Studio is a renewed development environment that shows how Pega brings AI closer to the design and development process. AI is combined with the structure, governance and best practices of the Pega platform, rather than simply having developers generate code. The central question is: how can AI help accelerate development without losing control over quality and architecture?

 

AI as part of the Development Environment

An important part of Infinity Studio is the Pega AI Assistant. Developers can ask questions and give instructions in natural language while working within their Pega application. The AI Assistant supports developers in performing tasks, answering questions, and guiding the development process. What sets it apart from a general coding assistant is the context.

A generic AI coding tool mainly works based on the instruction and the available code context. The AI Assistant within Infinity Studio also uses knowledge of the Pega application and the platform. This allows its support to better align with the workflows, rules, and implementation a developer is working on at that moment. AI therefore does not operate separately from the development process, but becomes part of it.

 

AI interprets, Pega executes

Behind the conversational experience lies an important mechanism. A developer’s natural-language instruction is not directly converted into randomly generated Pega rules. The language model is used to understand what the developer wants to achieve. That intent is matched with platform knowledge and existing workflow patterns. Once the required action is clear, the Pega platform executes the corresponding workflow to create or modify the required rules.

This creates a clear separation: AI interprets the request, while Pega executes the change in a controlled way. This aligns with Pega’s Predictable AI approach. Generative AI is used for interpretation and flexibility, while the platform controls the execution. For enterprise development, this distinction is important. Generating something quickly is not the same as building software that is secure, maintainable, and reliable.

 

From Blueprint to actual implementation

An important development is the integration between Pega Blueprint and Infinity Studio. With Blueprint, teams can translate a business problem into an application design at an early stage. AI supports the creation of workflows, data models, personas, and business rules. However, a design is not yet a production-ready application. Decisions still need to be made about integrations, security, exceptions, and the technical setup.

Infinity Studio brings design and implementation closer together. The output of Blueprint can serve directly as the starting point for the build phase. Outstanding elements can be made more concrete and then further developed by developers or with support from the AI Assistant. This helps preserve the original business intent throughout the implementation.

In traditional development processes, requirements often become scattered across documents, designs, and technical decisions. By bringing Blueprint and development closer together, this risk is reduced.

 

MCP: Connecting Pega applications with AI Agents

In addition to AI support during development, integration with external AI agents also plays an important role. An AI agent that needs to retrieve customer information, access a case, or perform a business action requires access to the appropriate systems. The Model Context Protocol (MCP) provides a standardized way to enable this interaction.

Within Pega, this works in two directions. The MCP Connector enables Pega applications to use external MCP-compatible AI capabilities. The MCP Service, on the other hand, allows external AI agents to invoke capabilities from a Pega application. Agent Skills determine which specific actions are available and which capabilities an agent can access.

Adjusting the user interface directly with UI Designer

The UI Designer makes it possible to view and adjust an application’s user interface (UI) directly within the context of the application. This allows developers to make changes to the UI and immediately assess how they affect the end-user experience.

For experienced Pega professionals, this follows the same principle as the former UI Inspector: the user interface can be reviewed and adjusted close to the actual application context. The UI Designer focuses specifically on the user interface, while workflows and user journeys are built and managed more broadly within Infinity Studio.

 

One environment for a complex development process

Infinity Studio brings together activities that were previously spread across different environments within Pega. Enterprise applications are complex. Switching between different tools and ways of working adds to that complexity. An integrated environment makes it easier to understand what is being built, collaborate, and implement changes. The introduction of AI does not change that.

AI accelerates the development process, but generated or suggested changes still need to be understandable, testable, secure, and maintainable. Architectural decisions, integrations, and exception handling continue to require professional expertise. Infinity Studio shows how AI can support the development process without taking it over.

 

Faster development without losing control

With Infinity Studio, AI becomes more closely integrated into developers’ day-to-day work. The AI Assistant helps interpret questions and instructions, Blueprint connects design and implementation, and the development experience brings different components together. In this way, AI supports developers in understanding, building, reviewing, and further developing Pega applications.

Speed is not a goal in itself. For business-critical applications, quality, security, maintainability, and predictability remain essential. The strength of Infinity Studio lies in combining AI assistance with the existing structure and governance of the Pega platform. Building faster is valuable, as long as teams remain in control of what is being built.
