Pega named a leader in Gartner’s First Magic Quadrant for BOAT

Gartner Magic Quadrant for Business Orchestration and Automation Technologies

Pega has been positioned as a Leader in Gartner’s new Business Orchestration and Automation Technologies (BOAT) category, achieving the highest scores for two of the most complex use cases.

Gartner has published its first Magic Quadrant for Business Orchestration and Automation Technologies (BOAT). Pega has been named a Leader, recognized for both its Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute. In the accompanying Critical Capabilities report, Pega also achieved the highest scores among all evaluated vendors in two of the most demanding use cases: Case Management and Enterprise Task and Process Automation.

For organizations keeping a close eye on developments in enterprise automation, this is more than just another analyst report. It is the first independent and structured comparison of vendors in a market segment that Gartner only introduced in May 2024. At the same time, it confirms a trend that many organizations have already been experiencing: the various technologies used for process automation are increasingly converging into a single, integrated platform.

The BOAT Magic Quadrant

Gartner defines a BOAT platform as an integrated software platform that automates business processes by bringing together business process orchestration, enterprise connectivity, low-code development and agentic automation.

Gartner predicts that by 2030, approximately 70% of enterprises will be using an integrated automation platform that orchestrates business processes, AI agents, bots, APIs, and human work within a single environment. Today, that figure is only around 5%. The first BOAT Magic Quadrant, which evaluates twenty vendors, provides valuable insight into which providers are best positioned to support this transition.

Why Pega’s position stands out

Being positioned as a Leader in the very first edition of the Magic Quadrant is a significant achievement in itself. As this is the inaugural report, there are no previous rankings for vendors to build upon. Even more noteworthy are the results of the accompanying Critical Capabilities report. Pega achieved the highest scores for Case Management and Enterprise Task and Process Automation—two of the most complex use cases in enterprise automation. These use cases require sophisticated, well-governed process orchestration and extend far beyond the automation of individual process steps.

These results closely reflect the way the Pega Platform has been designed. Case management and process orchestration have been at the architectural core of Pega Infinity for many years. They are not capabilities that were added later to align with a new market definition. With Pega Blueprint, AI-assisted process design has been integrated into the platform, while Pega Agentic Process Fabric enables the orchestration of AI agents, bots, APIs, and human work within a single, governed workflow. This consistent platform strategy appears to be a key factor behind Gartner’s strong evaluation of Pega.

What does this mean for your organization?

Many organizations still rely on a collection of disconnected automation solutions: a workflow platform, an RPA solution, a separate low-code platform, and multiple case management solutions used across different departments. The BOAT Magic Quadrant provides a valuable external benchmark for a question that many organizations are now asking themselves:

Which platform can truly provide an integrated approach to case management, process orchestration, low-code development, and agentic automation, without introducing yet another standalone technology?

From a strategic perspective, the timing is also significant. Gartner expects adoption of integrated automation platforms to grow from approximately 5% today to 70% by 2030. Organizations that begin evaluating these platforms now are not behind the curve, they are positioning themselves as early adopters. At the same time, this competitive advantage is unlikely to last indefinitely.

Pega’s position as a Leader, combined with its highest scores for Case Management and Enterprise Task and Process Automation, provides a compelling reason to include the Pega Platform as a key consideration when evaluating your future automation strategy.
